Universal Health Care Task Force
PRINCIPLES OF HEALTH CARE REFORM

House of Delegates Resolution 06-2, “Universal Health Insurance” was the basis for the creation of the Medical Society of Delaware’s Universal Health Care Task Force.  The Task Force was comprised of interested physician members and was provided assistance through the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices.  Chaired by Nicholas O. Biasotto, DO, the Task Force met several times in 2007, and in 2008 introduced a list of principles by which to evaluate other universal health care plan proposals.  These principles have been shared with the membership for input and discussion and in June 2008 were approved by the Society’s Board of Trustees.   Click here to access the Principles.

MENTAL HEALTH ACCESS TASK FORCE

The Medical Society of Delaware requested the assistance of the Speaker of the House in working toward a solution for the challenges faced by mental health professionals and their patients in seeking appropriate access to mental health treatment in Delaware.  House Resolution No. 93, establishing a Speaker’s Task Force to study mental health issues for the citizens of Delaware, was created at the end of the 143rd General Assembly.  The participants on the Task Force, a diverse group of individuals representing all aspects of mental health care in the State of Delaware, were brought together to discuss and make recommendations on matters of access for mental health care.  The Task Force submitted its report to the Speaker of the House in April 2007.  The Task Force believes its list of recommendations will help alleviate short term concerns with regard to access to mental health care for both mental health professionals and the citizens in the State.  Click here to access the report.
