SB 1 Introduced in the 153rd

  • Senator Townsend introduced SB 1 on March 5, 2026, followed by a press release from the Department of Insurance (DOI)
  • MSD collaborated with the DOI to ensure the inclusion of our 6 Primary Care Reform pillars were included in SB 1
    • Eliminate the sunset period for SB 120
    • Include Medicaid beneficiaries and State employees to expand the population covered by the legislation
    • Include all persons in the relevant health plans
    • Payments that represent primary care investments must follow the patients through the primary care practitioner to whom they are attributed
    • Implementation of a 5-year glide path, providing up front funding so that practices can move toward value-based practice models
    • Develop accountability standards for primary care

Advocacy

MSD’s Political Advocacy is a multi-faceted program intended to:

  • Represent, promote and defend the interests of physicians and their patients in the halls of government;
  • Educate and advise lawmakers and officials on medical issues that affect our community;
  • Establish relationships with and evaluate elected officials; and
  • Provide members the tools they need to stay current on the laws and regulations that affect their practices and to make informed decisions in the ballot booth.
